Slovenian and Estonian Contemporary School Lore

Description

The main objective of the project is to analyze and compare contemporary school lore (e.g. jokes, riddles, rituals), their use and dynamics in two European countries with different geographical positions and characteristics, similar history and no direct contact: Estonia and Slovenia. It will identify tradition and transformations of the folklore material, playfulness and creativity in the (new) formats and how they reflect the social reality that produces them. The project aims to apply a new dynamic comparative approach from an intercultural as well as diachronic and synchronic view, which offers a unique and innovative perspective in folklore studies of Slovenia and Estonia. As a result of this cooperation project, a new methodological framework for comparative and cross-cultural study of folkloristic forms will be created and the newly collected material among children will be added to the archives of the Institutions.
