Katarina Šrimpf Vendramin is a Research Associate at the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology at ZRC SAZU. After studying ethnology and cultural anthropology at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, she obtained her PhD from the ZRC SAZU Graduate School in 2015. Her research spans folkloristics, particularly folklore and humour, identity and heritage processes, as well as material culture, the history of dress, and textile heritage. She participates in national, international, and applied research projects, with particular emphasis on collaboration with local communities and the transfer of research findings to interested publics.
Katarina Šrimpf Vendramin’s research lies at the intersection of ethnology, cultural anthropology, and folkloristics. Within folkloristics, she focuses primarily on folklore, folk narrative, and humour, as well as the role of folklore in shaping and expressing local and regional identities. One of the major outcomes of her folkloristic research is the scholarly monograph Zgodbe in prostor [Stories and Space] (2021). As a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), she conducted research at the Enzyklopädie des Märchens project at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
Another important area of her research is material culture, particularly the history of dress and textile culture. More recently, her work has also focused on heritage processes, contemporary craft practices, and questions concerning the transmission and transformation of traditional knowledge in contemporary social and economic contexts.
She participates in national and international research projects, including, in recent years, the Interreg Alpine Space project AlpTextyles and the Horizon Europe project Culturality, which connect research on textile and craft heritage with contemporary social, economic, and sustainability challenges.
