Research interests

Katarina Šrimpf Vendramin (1985) graduated from the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana in 2010 with a thesis on the history of clothing and fashion. Since October 2010, Katarina Šrimpf Vendramin has been a researcher at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Institute of Slovenian Ethnology) in Ljubljana. She stared as a Ph.D. student and Junior Research Fellow under the supervision of dr. Monika Kropej Telban. In 2012 she was awarded German Government scholarship (DAAD) and spent the academic year 2012/13 at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences (Enzyklopädie des Märchens) and Georg-August University of Göttingen.

In 2015 she received a Ph.D. in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology. In her dissertation entitled "Oral Traditions and Collective Memory in the Slovenian area of Upper Obsotelje« - for which she conducted extensive ethnographic field research collecting folklore material - she examined the construction of identities (local, regional and national) and belonging from the perspective of narrative tradition.

Her research interests include folklore and fashion history. She researches various folklore forms connected to border areas. The main focus of her folkloristic research is on forms that are part of identity processes and humor (humorous stories, jokes, jeers). She also devotes herself to historical research of clothing culture in Slovenia.
