Delo odpira nekatere temeljne dileme razmerja med resničnostjo in njenim ubesedovanjem. Osvetlili so jih strokovnjaki različnih disciplin, ki jih povezuje temeljno semiotično stališče o tekstu kot kompleksnem znaku, katerega funkciji sta reprezentiranje resničnosti in pragmatično umeščanje govorečega/spoznavajočega subjekta v to resničnost.

Prispevki načenjajo vprašanja, ki so danes v središču pozornosti humanistike in družboslovja. Najprej odpirajo vprašanje meje, ki konstituira vsako razmerje in dojemanje realnega in simbolnega kot prostor nenehnega pogajanja – dialoga. Lotevajo se novega pojmovanja telesnosti, s katero subjekt vstopa in odpira različne diskurze in različne performanse (gledališke, ritualne, glasbene idr.). Pri tem imajo odločilno vlogo mediji in nove, digitalne tehnologije, ki so zamajali staro ontološko gotovost. Tako kvalitativne kot kvantitativne analize pa omogočajo novo razumevanje besedil.

Besedila odlikuje doslednost v rabi znanstvenega in teoretskega aparata, ki hkrati zagotavlja učinkovito komunikacijo z bralcem.
