The Days of Ethnographic Film (DEF) Seminar will take place on 3 and 4 March 2026 in the Gosposka Hall of ZM GIAM ZRC SAZU in Ljubljana (Gosposka ulica 16). The event is organised by the Slovenian Ethnological Society and the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology of ZRC SAZU, in cooperation with the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.
The film seminar presents a selection of eleven ethnographic films that explore human existence, ways of life, and people’s embeddedness in their immediate environment through environmental and social perspectives. Each screening is followed by a discussion with the film’s author.
A special event of the film seminar is the screening of the digitized film Galjevica. This film, made by Naško Križnar in collaboration with ethnologist Mojca Ravnik in 1977 on S8-mm film, was created as part of a broader ethnological study of the working-class neighbourhood of Galjevica on the outskirts of Ljubljana. The film Galjevica was digitized in 2024 by experts from the Slovenian Cinematheque as part of the activities of the Audiovisual Laboratory of the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology, while the sound recording was restored at the Institute of Ethnomusicology at the ZRC SAZU.
