The collection of Slovenian riddles contains 2,790 Slovenian riddles from the folklore collection of the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology. The riddles come from 171 sources: field material, newspapers, magazines, manuscripts, and printed collections of riddles from the 19th and 20th centuries. The material is classified into eight types, depending on the content, meaning, length, and presumed context of the riddle: true riddles, narrative thru riddles, humorous questions, wise questions, humorous wise questions, logical riddles, neck riddles, and sexual riddles.
The collection of riddles are also available on the Clarin.si research repository: https://www.clarin.si/repository/xmlui/handle/11356/2023.
The first electronic database of Slovenian folklore riddles was created as part of a postdoctoral project by our colleague Dr. Saša Babič in Tartu, Estonia. The search engine is in English (because it was developed abroad), but all the riddles are in Slovenian: https://www.folklore.ee/Slovenianriddles/otsing.
