Our discussion of the book will combine personal and historical perspectives on life at the border. Originally from Sarajevo, Diana Bošnjak Monai now lives and works in Trieste. Her book, which is being translated into Slovenian, offers a unique perspective on the recent past in the area in the vicinity of what is now the Slovenian–Italian border. Placing the author’s observations into a broader context will be the historian Marta Verginella, with emphasis on the multiculturalism and migratory flows in the area through time. The discussion will be moderated by Urška Strle. The event is part of the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Institute for Cultural History ZRC SAZU, which will also publish a Slovenian translation of Diana Bošnjak Monai’s book.
Participants: Diana Bošnjak Monai, writer, Marta Verginella, historian (Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana) and Urška Strle, historian (ZRC SAZU).
The discussion will be in Slovenian.
