The aim of scientific journal Studia mythologica Slavica is to throw light on Slavic mythology from different aspects, to add to it's reconstruction, and to present the mythopoetic and religious traditions of Slavic nations. The journal publishes detailed analyses of Slavic epic and narrative traditions, and comparative studies on the mythology and religious notions of older Slavic, Eurasian as well as other civilisations. The character of the publication is both international and interdisciplinary, covering the themes from the field of ethnology, philology, history, archaeology, religious studies, history of literature and philosophy.

The journal was first published in 1998 in cooperation of the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology at ZRC SAZU and the Department of Linguistics of the University in Pisa. From 1999 onwards it is published in cooperation with the University of Udine.

The Journal is published once a year in November in multi-language edition.
